The short version: Our analytics are anonymized, and the only personal data we collect is your email address, and only if you sign up for updates. We never sell or share your information, we never track how you vote or plan to vote, and you can unsubscribe or have your email deleted anytime. No account, lawyer, or Colorado residency required.
Who we are
Boulder.Vote is a civic information site serving Boulder, Colorado. When we say “we,” we mean the people who run Boulder.Vote. When we say “you,” we mean anyone visiting the site. This policy covers everything that happens on Boulder.Vote.
What we collect (it isn’t much)
Anonymized site analytics
We use anonymized analytics to understand things like which pages are useful and roughly how many people visit. Our analytics data is anonymized. It isn’t tied to you as an identifiable person, and we can’t use it to figure out who you are. We see patterns (“500 people read the ballot guide this week”), not people.
Your email address, only if you ask us to
The one piece of personal data we collect is your email address, and only if you sign up for email updates. That’s it: no name required, no phone number, no address. We use your email for exactly one thing: sending you the updates you asked for.
Our email updates are delivered through Mailchimp, which stores subscriber addresses on our behalf and processes them under its own privacy policy. We don’t let Mailchimp use our list for anything beyond sending our emails, and we never rent, sell, or share the list with anyone else. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you from the list, and you can also email us to have your address deleted entirely.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to make the site work (for example, remembering a preference you’ve set). We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or social media pixels.
And that’s the whole list. No accounts, no forms harvesting your details, nothing collected quietly in the background.
What we absolutely do not do
- We never sell your personal data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to campaigns, not to anyone, not for any price.
- We never track your political views. We don’t collect, infer, or store information about how you vote, plan to vote, or lean politically. A site about voting has a special duty here, and we take it seriously.
- We don’t collect sensitive data. We don’t ask for and don’t want your precise location, biometric data, health information, or other sensitive categories, and we would ask for your explicit consent before ever touching any of it.
Your rights, for everyone, not just Coloradans
The Colorado Privacy Act gives Colorado residents specific rights over their personal data. We think those rights are a good idea for everybody, so we extend them to every visitor, wherever you live:
To exercise any of these rights, just email us at privacy@boulder.vote. No forms, no fees, no account needed. Since the only personal data we hold is email addresses, most requests amount to “delete my email,” and we’ll do that promptly. (You can also just click unsubscribe in any email we send.)
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, good news: you’re already opted out of everything it covers, because we don’t sell data or serve targeted ads in the first place.
Who touches your data
A small number of service providers help us run the site: our web host, our analytics provider (which sees only anonymized data), and Mailchimp (which holds email addresses for our update list). They process data only on our instructions, only to provide their service to us, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. We do not share your personal data with anyone else, with one narrow exception: if we are legally compelled to by a valid court order, we will comply, and unless legally prohibited, we will tell you it happened.
How long we keep things
Analytics data is anonymized from the start, so there are no visitor-level records to keep. Your email address stays on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, at which point it’s removed. We don’t warehouse data “just in case.”
Children
This site is general civic information and is fine for curious young people to read. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13, and we don’t use any design features intended to profile or target minors. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, access to the small amount of data we hold is limited to the people who need it, and the best security measure of all is baked into our design: we can’t lose, leak, or misuse data we never collected.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we’ll update the date at the top and post a notice on the site before the change takes effect. We will never retroactively weaken protections on data collected under an earlier version of this policy.
